After three years, Float Fest returned to a new location in the historic town of Gonzales, Texas to entertain nearly 15,000 fans of indie pop, electronic, hip hop and progressive rock music. The new location was established on a private ranch measuring 765 acres, almost 3 times the size of the previous location. In addition to the 25 artists who performed on two stages, attendees were also able to camp and go tubing along the Guadalupe River. The festival provided attendees with a great selection of food vendors and everyone enjoyed the lineup that included Deadmau5, Marshmello, Cage the Elephant, Chance the Rapper, Vampire Weekend, among others. As exciting as the festival's return was, the new location had its fair share of problems. The recent 40+ degree heat wave and drought made the soil incredibly dry and cracked. The constant movement of people kicked up dust in great clouds, leaving everyone with dusty clothes and lungs. There was no phone data signal throughout the festival, and to top it all off, several VIP ticket holders complained about the lack of water in their toilets and showers.GA portable toilets also did not have handwashing stations or hand sanitizers for people to use.In the evenings the ranch was illuminated by few lights and with large potholes in the ground, it was very easy to trip when walking to camp or out of the festival.People also complained when leaving the place, taking up to 3 hours to get out of the single lane parking lot.Giving priority to the trucks of the artists instead of the line of cars that surrounded the field trying to get out.Despite the festival's logistical issues, VIP amenities included an air-conditioned room, several open bars with free drinks, and access to raised platforms next to the stages.General ticket attendees had many food and drink options, and the market offered amenities to better enjoy the festival such as fashion selections, relaxation products, and inflatable hammocks that were very popular. The Float section took guests on a relaxed almost hour and a half ride down the Guadalupe River. The music united the attendees with spectacular presentations and without any delay in the quality of sound and production.Artists like Chance The Rapper and Marshmello put on pyrotechnic shows during their set and several surprises continued in this edition of Float Fest. The Illinois hyperpop duo started their set with some technical difficulties but Dylan Brady and Laura interacted with the crowd and played their hits.Beginning her performance at sunset, Kaytranada's sounds and sights were a sensory journey that complemented the changing hues of the sky as the sun went down.Just a week after announcing that he and Vic Mensa were hosting the inaugural Black Star Line Festival in Ghana, set to take place in 2023.Chance the Rapper delighted fans at Float Fest.He opened his set with 'Hot Showers' and telling everyone that he had two drinks before going on stage. Then he, along with the crowd, belted out the words to 'Blessings'.The indie rock group from New York performed all of their hits from their most recent albums.Hits like 'A-Punk', 'Unbelievers' and 'Cousins' were part of the setlist. The Canadian DJ, rare for him, started his set without his iconic headgear.Probably because he was so hot. When he released the track 'Avaritia', he put on the helmet that was next to him.Halfway through the song it was him when he took it off, yelling at the crowd “At least it's not a bucket!”referring to Marshmallow, with whom he has a very strained relationship. There's a sense of catharsis listening to CHVRCHES play live, channeling feelings of isolation and darkness into colourful, visceral synth-pop songs. On stage, the presence of the band is dazzling.Lauren Mayberry is charismatic, drawing the crowd with her infectious energy, her powerful teardrop glitter makeup, her powerful voice and the childlike joy she gives off as she twirls around the stage. They finished their set with the songs that made them famous like 'The Mother We Share' and 'Clearest Blue'.Singer Ben Schneider donned a skull mask and delighted fans with a colorful stage. They played with a lot of energy and resonated with the crowd. The Los Angeles band performed songs from their album Strange Trails including the hit 'The Night We Met', as well as hits from the albums Long Lost and Vide Noire. It's no surprise that CTE put on a super energetic show, and this time it was no different.Matt and company got up close and personal with the crowd below and gave a performance that will be hard to forget. They played songs mainly from the Melophobia and Tell me I'm Pretty albums, including hits like 'Ain't No Rest For The Wicked', 'Shake Me Down' and 'Cigarette Daydreams'.To wrap up the set, Matt stood up above the people below thanking everyone in attendance for watching the show. The Philadelphia DJ headlined the festival and wrapped up Float Fest 2022. The show was loaded with fireworks, fog, and lots of colored lights.Fans of the DJ paid tribute by wearing all white or wearing Marshmello helmets.Several children could be seen dancing in the crowd, mainly since he had a Fortnite concert a few years ago and is now a playable character in the popular video game. She played several remixes, as well as a barrage of material from her original tracks and collaborations. Thus, another edition of the Float Fest ends, leaving a lot of work to the organizers, who although they improved in the lineup and part of the experience, also had many details (drinking water, traffic) to work on for 2023.In 2018 we also went to the festival and had a great time (here you can see our review).
